Farwell Fun

Summer is here and the fun has definatly started! I'm leaving tomorrow for a little adventure, I won't be back for almost six weeks so I had to get all the fun in with the friends! Here is what i have been up to!
I bought a new camera for my trip. I wasn't pleased with it the first night I got it but after playing with it for a while I think it was a good purchase. Here are the pictures Amy and I took with to experiement. We had a little too much fun with it.

I said goodbye to Ryan as he left for India to stay for a month to do humanitarian work in leprosy colonies. He woke me up at 5am to take him to the airport(that should explain the pjs), he was too excited!

My friend since gradeschool moved back up north and into my apt! I missed her so much, we have been making up for some lost time.

Like sleep overs on the dock ....

Dal, Chris, Amy and I kayaked down Provo river. It was intense because none of us knew what we were doing. Luckily we lived....barely. We hit some rapids and fell out a few times. Poor Dal didn't even have a life jacket. I'm thinking I need to kayak more often, it kept a smile on my face all week!

Alex's portfolio

My friend Alex was trying to build her photography portfolio so she could start getting some business. Some friends and I took a day and did some head shots, I even pulled out my sisters wedding dress to do some bridals. She is just starting out but I think she did a great job. Check it out! Her blog is sallyphotography.blogspot.com.

These Bridals were pretty different, it made it really fun! There are more of my friend Amy in a wedding dress and biker gear on the blog!
Don't mind the rip in the sleeve, she bought this dress at the DI for us to destroy.
Keep in mind... THESE ARE NOT REAL!

Backpacking trip

Spring semester has ended and I am beginning to get some extra time on my hands...maybe too much extra time. As a result I have decided to start blogging so I can feel accepted among my family ;) Here is what's been going on the past few months!

Crossing the bridge into Panama. Apparently this can be a dangerous bridge if you are illegal. There are guards with guns on each side in case someone decides to swim across. Crossing this bridge was nerve racking. Basically, it had rotten boards laid across with huge gaps in between. I had to pay close attention and keep my eyes down to make sure I didn't fall through. Yet, the small Panamanian boys could have crossed with their eyes closed.

The Monte Verde cloud forest! These are some picture of some cool spots we hiked to.
Bet you have never seen an animal like this. Ryan only knows the name of the animal in spanish so I just remember it as the rodent monkey. After our hike we missed the bus so ryan and I had a two hour hike down the mountain into the town of Monte Verde.
At first I was bummed we missed the bus and I grew bitter with each rich gringo that passed us in their luxury rentals without offering a ride. Although, I ended up being so grateful we walked when we got to this point. Look how gorgeous! We defiantly would have missed this on the bus! We also ran into some adventures when Ryan teased a rodent monkey and it ended up chasing him!

The vacant beaches of Puerto Viejo

Ryan and I rented cruiser bikes for the rate of two dollars a day.We rode them up the coast. On our ride I was able to see some howler monkeys (called that for good reason, they make the most horrendous noise). It was the perfect little bike ride up the coast until we got stuck in a down pour.
These beaches were so gorgeous and completely empty.

On the jeep ride up in the mountains to Eddie and Mariany's house they pulled over and took this picture of us. It doesn't even do it justice one bit. It was such GORGEOUS country side!

Such a cutie, she fell asleep on my lap on our ride up the mountain. It was fun practicing my spanish with her until she told me my eyes looked like a cat.
There little boy was adorable, he looked like a little gringo boy with his dirty blond hair! He was my little novio!

These are our friends Eddie and Mariany. Ryan and I met Mariany on a bus ride. Mariany and Ryan chatted up a storm in espanol... I smiled, nodded my head and smiled some more. When we got off the bus in some obsqure town, Mariany offered us a rided to our destination and to sleep at their house for the night. We took up that offer and ended up spending the day with her, her husband Eddie and their two beautiful kids! They were so kind to us! Sweet Mariany even woke up with us at 5am to feed us breakfast before we caught the bus. Eddie was a elementary school teacher who taught up in the mountains close to Monte verde in a very small town where the children of coffee bean workers lived.

Tamarindo!

Here we are with a family I had heard all about before I even met them! These are the Lezamas. They are an amazing family that Ryan Baptized on his mission. They consider Ryan to be part of the family. Their reaction of seeing each other after 18 months was priceless. This was our first day in CR so I was still shy about trying out my Spanish and my translator (Ryan) went out to play soccer with the Lazama and neighbor boys. I was inside with the rest of them and needless to say it was a painful conversation that probably made zero sense but as soon as Ryan was back I was able to get to know the family a little bit better. They insisted we stay the night even though they only had one small room with bunk beds for the kids. A few of them stayed the night on the back porch to make room for Ryan and I.
This picture wraps up a huge part of our trip, public transit. Yup! we did it Tico style by taking the bus all over the country of Costa Rica! Some of the bus rides took up to seven hours but it was all apart of the fun!
